Repository Analytics – What is an Activity Map?

Activity Map is a powerful capability within Adobe Analytics that provides real-time insights for marketers and business users. It puts usage and interaction data in context and overlays visual representations of individual elements of webpages and digital properties directly on the page to provide a snapshot of performance that helps to fine-tune digital content to drive engagement and conversions.

An Activity Map can be implemented across a website to track link clicks and quantify rankings on the basis of historic and in-real-time data. TheĀ ActivityMap platform comes bundled with Adobe Analytics and is very easy to implement as part of an existing analytics implementation.

Readership Activity Map – Available for any repository homepage or collection, the readership activity map demonstrates the impact of repository scholarship as it’s downloaded from around the world. It’s a live visualization of downloads and features location pins to show the global reach of your collection.

The Readership Activity Map can be enabled for the repository homepage or a specific collection, enabling you to demonstrate the scholarship impact of your repository collections to faculty, students, and researchers at any institution. It can be configured to display recent download activity or live activity, and its colors and placement are customizable.

A Readership Map can also be embedded into a repository homepage, department, center, or affiliated site. It showcases the impact of repository scholarship in the form of pin drop behavior, showing the locations of works being downloaded at any given time and is fully configurable for a lively display for all collection sizes.

It is possible to configure the readership activity map in such a way that it will only display when a certain threshold of downloads has been reached in a certain time frame. The time frame is controlled by the Playback Timeframe setting on the Configuration screen. The automated Playback function chooses the most appropriate option out of Live, Hour, Day, Week, or 30 Days based on average download activity over a period of time.

An embeddable Readership Activity Map is also available for use on department, center, or affiliated sites to showcase the impact of repository scholarship as it’s being downloaded from around the world. It can be configured to display recent download or live activity, and its colors and placement is customizable for a lively display for all collection sizes.

When a user visits the library’s homepage, they will see the readership map above the “Browse Research and Scholarship” section. It will also appear on the community or publication homepages, below the main title and introductory text and above any corresponding content list.

The embeddable Readership Activity Map will appear on the home pages of any collection with a minimum number of downloads in the last month. For collections with fewer than 40 downloads in the last month, the Readership Activity Map will not display until traffic increases above that threshold.

This is a very useful tool for those wishing to create an educational map that shows the dependencies between activities and in which order they need to be completed in order to achieve a certain learning outcome. This type of map is often used to support individualized learning where a student can have access to all of the materials they need to complete a certain project in the order that they need to.
